Isabella started swimming lessons with Water Babies when she was just 4 1/2 months old. Isabella is now 2 years old and we still attend classes every Thursday. Isabella loves the water and loves her Waterbabies sessions. The instructors are wonderful and when I told them about Isabella’s condition, they were more than accommodating. They made sure that every instructor that taught Isabella was aware of her condition and adapted the lessons for Isabella accordingly. She is still with her friends that started with her back in September 2010. The only difference now for example, is where her friends are now standing on the poolside and jumping into the pool, Isabella will be dropped in by the instructor. The emphasis is still on water safety and ensuring Isabella’s can access the lesson like her friends. Small simple changes in the lesson plan mean Isabella can have fun and learn new skills like her friends. Isabella has no fear of water, she loves diving in, swimming under water, swimming through a hoop, being dropped in from the side, swimming on her back and front and she loves kicking her legs! She is by definition a true ‘Water baby!’
I highly recommend Water Babies to any parent with a child with or without special needs. It is one of the best things that we have done with Isabella and we don’t know if she will ever be able to walk, but she is certainly mastering how to swim!
